Fort Settlement Middle School
The only middle school in Fort Bend Independent School District to be rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency, Fort Settlement is committed to meeting the unique needs of its students by fostering a community of academic excellence and social responsibility.
Opened in 2001, the school has rigorous academic standards, evidenced by students’ impressive performance on state-mandated TAKS tests. Ninety-nine percent of students passed all portions of the TAKS test—reading, writing, social studies and math—in spring 2007.
Fort Settlement has garnered attention on a national level—as a 2007 No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
Dedicated teachers work not only to guide students through middle school, but also to help them become lifelong learners. The curriculum is grounded in solid academic standards customized to middle school-age children. Teachers and administrators are cognizant of the concerns of adolescents and work to create a climate of both intellectual development and a caring community.
Parents are intensely involved in the school, with Fort Settlement’s PTO raising a tremendous amount of money to support student learning. Thanks to PTO efforts, the school has a digital video security system, a track and additional classroom equipment including microscopes, telescopes, atlases and more. The PTO also funds the summer library program. Safety was a PTO priority in 2007, with money raised to relocate the school’s courtyard fence to enclose the walkway doors used by students and staff.
